Steinford Toy Foundation
During the Great Depression, a Northern KY couple, Rose and George Steinford, witnessed many needy children who were not experiencing the joys of Christmas. Rose and George assumed the roles of Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus by purchasing, repairing, and distributing used toys to these children. It was not long before the community became involved in their mission.
Rose passed away in 1973 but several Covington-Kenton County Jaycees, who had been involved in the Christmas project as volunteers, helped George carry on the tradition. The "Rose and George Steinford Toy Association" was developed soon after. In 1980, George also passed away but the foundation, now known as "The Steinford Toy Foundation," has continued to provide Christmas joy to needy families throughout Northern Kentucky ever since.
Toys are purchased using funds from the Foundation's fundraising activities and community donations, as well as direct toy donations from area businesses and individuals who help coordinate toy drives each year.
